Description

The City of Westminster is actively pursuing opportunities to increase renewable electricity procurement for municipal facilities and operations.

This strategy focuses on continuing this effort through on-site solar installations, renewable energy subscription programs and other renewable energy opportunities.

Components

Work with Sun Share, Xcel Energy and other renewable energy providers to increase costeffective renewable energy for municipal facilities and operations through community solar gardens, Renewable*Connect® and similar programs.
Explore opportunities to connect streetlights on city property with renewable energy subscriptions or programs.

City solar garden subscriptions account for 9.7 MW of renewable energy annually, which has saved the City approximately $1 million in utility costs over the last five years.

Solar panels installed at four facilities through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for on-site generation.
In 2009, solar panels were installed at the Municipal Services Center, Public Safety Center, City Park Recreation, and West View Recreation Center through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). In total, the PPAs generate on average 350,000 kWh of clean energy each year.
